IWMBuzz reviews Sony TV show Punyashlok Ahilyabai

Sony Entertainment Television launched a new period drama titled “Punyashlok Ahilyabai”, produced by Dashami Creations and helmed by Nitin Vaidya and Ninad Vaidya. It is based on the life of one of the most legendary women in Indian history- Ahilyabai Holkar.

About the show:

The show is a period drama set in the 18th century based on the extraordinary life of ‘Ahilyabai Holkar’, who with the support of her father-in-law Malhar Rao Holkar, vehemently defied the pre-defined norms of the patriarchal society and made positive contributions to the welfare of people and particularly women.

Famous child actress Aditi Jaltare plays the titular role of the legendary Ahilyabai Holkar’s younger version. Popular child actor Krish Chauhan is Ahilyabai’s husband, Khande Rao. Rajesh Shringarpure and Snehalta Vasaikar are seen as Ahilyabai Holkar’s father-in-law, Malhar Rao Holkar and mother-in-law Gautamabai.

Good Points:

We are impressed by the acting of Aditi. She brings out the warrior spirit with elan. Veteran actor Rajesh Shringarpure is apt as Malhar. Krish and Gautamabai have also done a good job.

The rest of the ensemble cast is pretty much run-of-the-mill, both in the acting department and in screen presence. The first episode had us on the edge of the seat with its sheer energy and raw, emotional appeal.

What further impressed us is the look and feel of the visuals- spectacular, magnificent and unlike anything seen on Indian television before. Right from the settings, to the costumes, to the intro, the show has captured viewers’ collective imaginations like never before.

Thumbs Up:

The show is a visual delight and has a lot going for it. The show will get good word of mouth for the way the story is being handled.

We at IWMBuzz.com credit Punyashlok Ahilyabai with 4 out of 5 stars.
