Fans of the rapper, singer, songwriter, and producer (who releases full-lengths under the alias Agust D) Suga were eager to hear every song on the 10-track project when it was unexpectedly released a little over a week ago, but they quickly settled on a favorite and bought far more copies of that one song than any other. Now, that song has made history by surpassing all other rap songs in this period to become the most famous song in the country.

“Daechwita,” a song by Suga, arrives at No. 1 on Billboard’s Rap Digital Song Sales chart. Lists the week’s top-grossing songs that may be categorized as rap. This time around, the song easily outsells every other song in the nation and starts selling well right away. According to Nielsen Music, “Daechwita” debuts in the first position with over 17,000 sales, making it not just the country’s best-selling rap song but also the second-best-selling track across all genres. It debuts at No. 2 on the comprehensive Digital Song Sales list, just behind “Rain on Me” by Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande. With his latest song, Suga creates history as the first South Korean artist to ever have a No. 1 hit on the Rap Digital Song Sales chart with “Daechwita.” Actually, very few songs with a country music singer on the front or featuring them have made it onto the chart, and none of them has been able to reach the top spot—until now.

Suga’s “Daechwita” isn’t the first song to debut on the Rap Digital Song Sales chart, but it is extremely uncommon for any song rapped in a language other than English to do so. The song surpasses the previous record for a song performed (at least partially) in Korean by peaking at No. 1 on the charts. J-Hope, a fellow member of BTS, previously held that title with his 2019 single “Chicken Noodle Soup,” a Korean/Spanish/English song with Becky G, which peaked at No. 3.

“Daechwita” will always rank as one of the highest-charting of the group, and it’s probable that Suga’s achievement may never be duplicated, even though there may one day be another Korean No. 1 hit on the Rap Digital Song Sales chart.
