Nicki Minaj, who is also known as Onika Tanya Maraj, follows her Indian take from her dad, Robert Maraj. Robert is Indo-Trinidan while Nicki’s mom, Carol Maraj, is of Afro-Trinidan.
Nicki opened up about her Indian legacy on the TV show American Idol Season 12 in 2013. She said, “My real last name is Maraj. My father is half-Indian and makes the best chicken curry in the world.”
Nicki certainly prevails in her Indian culture. In 2014 she said that she jumps at the chance to make chicken curry using a similar formula her dad showed her years prior.
