Indian cricket coach Rahul Dravid has tested positive for COVID-19. This may lead to his absence from the Asia Cup. BCCI is waiting on his status before any declaration that they should dispute VVS Laxman’s travel to India for Asia Cup. The coach is set to take another COVID test.

And in the matter, BCCI said, “Dravid’s symptoms are mild. So we will wait and decide later whether we need to send VVS Laxman as his replacement or not. Laxman is already in Harare, and they are supposed to take a flight to Dubai today. So we can ask Laxman to stay back for a few days in Dubai until Dravid’s situation clears. So we have asked Dravid to undergo another test.”

While the Indian team is traveling to Dubai today, players, support staff, and others were allowed to travel from their respective places. However, Rahul Dravid, who was in Bangalore, tested COVID-19 positive and has been kept under isolation.

Moreover, the Indian board is waiting for confirmation from Dravid before sending any replacement. Until then, Parsa Mhambrey, the bowling coach, has been approached to look after the team in Dubai.

Jay Shah, the secretary of BCCI, said, “Team India Head Coach Rahul Dravid has tested positive for COVID-19 in a routine test conducted before the team’s departure to the UAE for Asia Cup 2022. Mr. Dravid is under the supervision of the BCCI Medical team and has mild symptoms. He will join the team once he returns with a negative COVID-19 report. The rest of the team will assemble in the UAE on 23rd August 2022.”

Dravid is given a break for a few days, and as soon as the reports come, he might join the team, or the board will send the replacement.
