Sledging is as old as the origin of the sport cricket. The practice has always impacted on the players’ performances. Sledging is basically the attempt to tease and taunt the opponent player or team through words. It sometimes drops the confidence of the opponent, or sometimes excites them up too. And when we talk about sledging, that one team who tops the list is none other than the five-times World Cup-winning team – Australia.
The Indian cricketer, Rishabh Pant, who was new to the international cricket was targeted by Tim Paine, the Australian Test captain in India’s tour to Australia for the 2018-19 3rd Test. Although, it was not just Pant, but also Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Murali Vijay, in that Test series. He bantered the Indian wicketkeeper by calling him at Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League (BBL) and babysit his kids. Paine even uploaded a picture of Pant with his wife and children, and calling him “Best babysitter.” Paine wanted to take out his wife for a movie night, and thus he asked him to babysit his kids.
Even Pant was caught sledging Paine in the stump mics under the scanner with the Australian Cricketers’ Association (ACA). He called Paine as “temporary captain”, in the match. Although, Paine talked about his sledge to Pant, in a Big Bash League matches while commentating. He said that Australian players were bored and were unable to get a wicket down, thus they chose to sledge him. He also considered the undeniable talent and skills of Pant.
