Pursala Venkata Sindhu, often known as PV Sindhu, is one of India’s brightest sports stars who rose to the top of her sport at the age of just ten. At the young age of 14, she began a professional career in badminton and went on to dominate the Olympics, BWF Women Championships, Asian Games, and Commonwealth Games. She has been one of India’s top athletes, along with boxer Mary Kom and fellow badminton star Saina Nehwal. She first studied signal engineering and telecommunications at the Indian Railway Institute in Secunderabad before taking Badminton lessons at the Gopichand Badminton Academy from Pullela Gopichand. She made the more than 57-kilometer trip to the academy each day, arriving on schedule. This demonstrates how committed she was even as a little child. When Sindhu won her first championship at age 10, she never looked back.

At the age when kids enjoy going to school, Sindhu was racking up accolades. She competed in the Colombo 2009 Sub-Junior Asian Badminton Championships and won a bronze medal. In 2010 and 2011, she attended the BWF World Junior Championship.

At the age of 16, Sindhu earned her first international gold medal. She defeated Japanese player Nozomi Okuhara in the finals by scores of 18-21, 21-17, and 22-20 to win the Asian Junior Championships and she hasn’t stopped since.
