There are two variants of iron content in food, heme iron, and non-heme iron. Heme iron is mostly seen in meat, poultry, and seafood all animal-based food. While Nonheme iron is seen in plant foods and foods with more iron content. Your body has the ability to absorb both types of iron, but mostly it absorbs heme iron more easily.

* Leafy greens especially darker one contains more nonheme iron. These vegetables including spinach, kale, collard green, and swiss chard. All leafy greens are a great source of iron, especially spinach and kale which are also high in oxalates.

* Meat and poultry are rich in nonheme iron. Red meat, lamb, and venison comparatively contain a high amount of iron. Eating heme iron food along with nonheme iron foods such as leafy greens and vitamin c food can increase iron absorption.

* Organ meat, especially the liver is necessary for anemic conditions. Even other organ meat such as kidneys, heart, and other organ meat is also a high source of iron.

* Seafood is also a great source of heme iron. Most of the fish including, oysters, clams, scallops, crabs, and shrimp are a good source of iron.

* Beans, nuts, and seeds are also a good source of iron. There are various beans normally we consume, as well as pumpkin seed, cashews, pistachios, hemp seeds, pine nuts are a good source of iron.
