Indian para-athletes continued to shine at the Tokyo Paralympics, winning a total of 5 gold medals. A 19-year-old Manish Narwal, a para shooter, won the gold medal in the Mixed 50m Pistol SH1 event, while Singhraj Adhana fetched silver.

The Paralympic Games are held every four years. Narwal earned gold with a score of 218.2, a Paralympic record, while Adhana took silver with a score of 216.7 after winning bronze in the P1 men’s 10m air pistol SH1 event on Tuesday.

With a timing of 196.8, Sergey Malyshev of the Russian Olympic Committee took bronze.

On Twitter, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Narwal and Adhana, stating that the glory from the current games would continue.

“Glory from the Tokyo Paralympics continues. Great accomplishment by the young and stupendously talented Manish Narwal. His winning the gold medal is a special moment for Indian sports. Congratulations to him. Best wishes for the coming time.” PM Modi tweeted.

Another Indian in the competition, Akash, came in 27th place in the qualifying round and did not make it to the final.

Competitors in the SH1 category have a disability that affects one arm or leg, such as amputations or spinal cord injuries because the pistol is handled with only one hand. P4 is the classification for the mixed 50m air pistol competition.

According to the rules, some shooters participate from a seated posture, while others aim from a standing one.
