A high school dropout

Mary never had a passion for studying, therefore she was unable to finish high school. When she was in class 7 at St. Xavier’s School, she made the decision to stop so that she could focus more on boxing. Later on, she would take the final examinations privately and even graduate from Churachadpur College privately after appearing for them.

Came to boxing after college

Mary enjoyed boxing, but she never really treated it like a serious sport. She didn’t consider doing it professionally until much later. According to legend, Mary didn’t even consider trying boxing until her idol Dingko Singh won the gold medal at the Asian Games. Her hero’s achievements served as a motivation for her, and Mary Kom’s gold medal at the Asian Games changed her life.

An academy of her own

In order to inspire and assist hundreds of young, talented boxers in realizing their ambitions of becoming professional fighters, Mary built her own institution, the MC Mary Kom Boxing Academy, in her own state. Since 2007, she has offered several disadvantaged girls free coaching, guaranteeing that no one’s dreams of becoming a boxer may be thwarted by financial difficulty.
