Women’s IPL, which is also known as Women’s T20 Challenge was launched by the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) a couple of years back in 2018. Women’s IPL has got a total of three teams – IPL Supernovas, IPL Velocity, and IPL Trailblazers. The Women’s IPL has played an important role in the contribution to Indian cricket, especially for women. Due to the current pandemic, IPL Women is hopefully to be held in November 2020, in a four-team format in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), as per the PTI reports. Women’s IPL has given a better shape to the Indian national women’s cricket team. And, Women’s IPL is really important for India. Here are the two reasons why Women’s IPL needs to be held:

1: New talent

It will not only provide opportunities to the women cricket players, but also to the aspiring ones. There are many young aspiring women cricketers, and Women’s IPL has helped BCCI to spot the new talented players. Shafali Verma is one of the prime examples who played for IPL Velocity in May 2019 and later bagged into Indian women’s national cricket team for the 2019 T20I team.

2: Development

Countries like Australia and England have already got their own women’s T20 tournament. Australia has Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL), and England has Women’s Cricket Super League (WCSL), then why should India stay behind? BCCI has given Indian cricket a new shape, especially women’s cricket by introducing Women’s IPL and empowering the new players.
